STDs
Think that you can't or won't get an STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease)?

Every year, almost 4 million American teenagers get an STD. If you've had sex, you could be infected with one or more STD. You could have one now and not even know it. Some STDs make you sick today and others cause problems later in life--serious problems like cancer or infertility. So you may want to get the facts straight!

You can get an STD by having sex (vaginal, anal, oral sex) with an infected person.

Beware!
Your partner may not know he/she has an STD; 80% of infected persons do not know their condition.
Your partner may not tell you the truth if he/she has been sexually active in the past.
Teens are much more susceptible to STD damage because they have a lower level of antibodies than adults.
Condoms do not provide adequate protection from any STD or pregnancy. Abstinence from sexual intercourse is the only effective way to avoid being infected. If you've had sex, get checked out by having a comprehensive STD screening.

In today's culture, many people think sex is no big deal. But when you are the one facing an STD or unwanted pregnancy, or who's been hurt by a sexual relationship, it is a big deal.
