| Your period is late. Could you be pregnant? |
For most women, a missed period is the first sign of pregnancy. But there are many reasons a period might come late or even skip a month, including dietary changes, intensive exercise, travel, and stress. And some women have periods so irregular that they can't predict when the next one will come.
Other factors besides having a period may cause bleeding from the uterus, including pregnancy. So, although a missed period is certainly your best clue to a possible pregnancy, it's not a definitive sign. Your suspicions may increase if you have other symptoms of early pregnancy, such as:
extreme fatigue |
breast tenderness |
nausea--with or without vomiting |
abdominal cramps |
frequent urination |
mood swings |
increased vaginal discharge |
| Obviously, many of these symptoms occur for other reasons, and can be confused with other illness. |
